Still lifes have a long history in the world of painting, perhaps reaching a peak in 17th century Dutch painting. Weintraub pays homage to this long artistic tradition and the Dutch paintings in this body of work. For each final image in “Still Lifes with Fruit,” Weintraub first arranged the elements of the composition and then took the photograph. She sees herself, however, as much as a digital painter as a photographer. To achieve her vision, she imported the photographs to the computer where she happily spent hours to get the processing of an image exactly right. For her, the computer is as important as the camera.
